Weekend fundraising drives are a good moment to think about how you give, not only how much. San Diego has one of the largest concentrations of active-duty personnel, veterans and military families in the country, and that means a wide range of organisations asking for support, from food pantries near the bases to groups that help with housing, job training or peer mentoring. A little homework makes sure your contribution reaches the people it is meant for.

Check before you give

  • Confirm the organisation's status. If a tax deduction matters to you, verify that the group is a registered charity using the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search, and ask a tax professional about your own situation.
